[Donald Kerr, the principal deputy director of national intelligence] says it is time people in the United States changed their definition of privacy. Privacy no longer can mean anonymity. Instead, it should mean that government and businesses properly safeguards peoples private communications and financial information. Amazing, considering that it is coming from a top government official. A government, remind you, that was founded on the principle that each and every one of us is guaranteed a barrier against unreasonable (read: international call fishing trips) intrusions into our privacy. As per usual, regardless of what a government about being able to self-monitor and stay within narrow parameters … once an expansion in power is granted, governments (and people) tend to use their newly given powers to the max. That is just human nature and power does corrupt. Our representatives should (must) understand this and vote accordingly (read: against any expansion in FISA!1
